On August 24, Ukrainian drone manufacturer F-Drones will release a simulator on Steam designed to train FPV drone operators. On Independence Day, users in Ukraine will be able to download it for free. The company announced this on its Facebook page.
"On August 24, we are launching the F-Drones Simulator on Steam. This is a simulator of combat FPV scenarios for practicing piloting and performing missions in conditions as close to real ones as possible. It contains models of our drones, their physics and characteristics; the result is affected by the terrain, battery, radio horizon, communication, electronic warfare and the configuration of the drone itself," the announcement states.
F-Drones noted that on August 24, they will publish detailed instructions on how Ukrainian users can obtain the simulator for free.
The company added its own drone models to the game, recreated their physics and specifications, and developed missions of varying difficulty levels. Military personnel were involved in the creation of the simulator, helping to recreate various communication configurations and conditions for carrying out combat missions.
A limited version of the simulator will be released on Steam. Separately, the company has developed an expanded, non-public version for military training. It contains more features and scenarios and is provided to verified military and training centers upon request.
F-Drones CEO Stanislav Khutor told DOU that before beginning practical training, prospective FPV pilots must spend at least 10 hours on the simulator. According to him, the simulator is planned to be used, in particular, during the training of U.S. military personnel.
Context
Ukraine has exported ready-to-use combat drones to the U.S. for the first time. 2,000 F10 strike FPV drones from F-Drones were shipped to the U.S. as part of the Drone Dominance project, which is being implemented for the U.S. Department of War.
Following a decision by the European Commission, the Ukrainian defense company F-Drones has been included in the list of founding members of the newly established EU-Ukraine Drone Alliance.
