The Ukrainian defense company F-Drones has unveiled F5, a 5-inch FPV drone designed specifically for assault units. The drone is modified for short distances and challenging environments – such as forests, urban areas, position support, and assaults. The company announced this on Facebook.
"A lightweight 5-inch carbon-fiber platform with a payload capacity of up to 1 kg is ready for immediate use on the front lines, where every second counts," F-Drones stated.
The company said the F5 will be available in two versions: one equipped with a jam-resistant radio control channel and another using a fiber-optic control system.
"The drone comes in two versions—with a jam-resistant radio channel and a fiber-optic control channel that is completely immune to electronic warfare. In the fiber-optic configuration, the drone has a range of about 6 km. In the radio-controlled version, the F5 has twice the tactical range, reaching up to 13 km. Its compact size also simplifies logistics: several drones can be carried in a single backpack," – reads F-Drones' announcement.
The manufacturer added that the F5 has been tested and certified by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
"Like all our drones, the F5 is equipped with the certified 'Opera' electronic trigger board. The UAV has been tested and certified by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. We have found the right balance between compactness, range, and payload. We hope the enemy will appreciate it," – the company said.
F-Drones CEO Stanislav Khutor also said in an interview with DOU that the F5 can be integrated with ground-based robotic systems.
"The F5 can also be mounted on ground-based robotic systems. We have created a modular platform that can be adapted to various systems, provided they are capable of carrying the required weight. A single robot in this configuration can carry nine drones. They can hold positions, support defensive operations, or take part in assaults. That means nine separate sorties without directly putting at risk a person who would otherwise have to carry the drones," – Khutor said.
Context
- F-Drones became the first Ukrainian company to export ready-to-use combat drones to the United States. 2,000 F10 strike FPV drones were shipped to the U.S. as part of the Drone Dominance project, which is being implemented for the U.S. Department of War.
- In 2026, F-Drones unveiled the F-CAPTAIN middle-strike system and the upgraded LITAVR+ jet-powered drone interceptor, and also announced plans to launch licensed production in the U.S. state of Ohio, where 300 people will be employed.
